On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Ivy Legacy Foundation of Acadiana joined community leaders and residents from across Acadiana in commemorating the Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The observance honored the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through reflection, recognition, and meaningful community engagement.

During the event, the Foundation connected with the Lafayette community, highlighting its ongoing programs and scholarship opportunities aimed at empowering and supporting local residents.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee of Lafayette hosted its annual observance under the theme, “Living the Dream: Together, We Shall Overcome.” All activities took place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center on Cora Street.

The day’s events began with a flag-raising ceremony followed by a prayer breakfast at 8:30 a.m. As part of the program, organizers recognized the 2026 Dr. King Award recipients: Pat Colbert-Cormier, Capt. Ray Bias, Geralyn Shelvin, and Judge Jules Edwards III, who was honored posthumously. Committee members noted that each honoree was selected for their longstanding service and significant impact within the community.
